Land Rover Illuminated Airbag Warning Light

Is Your Land Rover’s Airbag Warning Light On? Here’s What It Means

The airbag in your Land Rover is one of the most important features of the safety system in your car. It has certainly been proven that airbags save lives and have proved themselves invaluable since their invention and implementation. So, what does it mean if your Land Rover’s airbag light has illuminated as your warning? Will it continue to work? Do I need to get it serviced right away? Let’s look into these questions together to allow you to make the best decision for you and your family.

  • A faulty clockspring is another reason your airbag light can be on. The clockspring is located in your Land Rover’s steering wheel and allows it to turn and still have a connection to your steering wheel airbag. If this connection is lost it can translate into an illuminated air bag light.
  • Current Damage to Car: Your Land Rover employs sensors throughout the car to recognize when a crash happens and deploys the airbag. If one of the sensors is already damaged, the car’s safety system may think that the airbag has already set off and will illuminate the airbag light. With this in mind, make sure that any fender bender, no matter how small, is checked out by a Land Rover service technician. Although your car may look fine, any damage to a sensitive sensor can cause your airbag to not deploy when it is absolutely necessary.
  • Airbag Not Working: An airbag light could mean that the airbag is deactivated, or the car’s computer may not recognize it. Either way, if this is the case, your airbag may not function at all.
  • Battery Replacement: Your car battery may have been unhooked recently or died. Your car’s computer will take time to recognize all of the components on your Land Rover and will eventually. If the light is on and goes away after a new battery is installed, it means your computer has recognized the safety feature.
  • Computer Malfunctions: This can be another reason why your airbag system light is on. If your computer is damaged, it can be throwing off warning lights when it cannot detect what it needs to. One thing to note in this case, however, is that you will probably see more than an airbag light on if this is happening.
  • Seat Belt Tensioner issues can also translate into an airbag light coming and staying on. When your tensioner is malfunctioning, it is warning you through the airbag light that something is wrong.
  • A blown fuse is another electrical problem that can cause your airbag to come on. When your car is serviced, all of these will be checked to see if the problem is with the fuse itself. It is important to note whether there is only a weak fuse or if there is a reason the fuse is blowing due to a malfunction within the system itself.

So, when do we decide to take our Land Rover in or not for inspection by an expert technician? Unless it’s the case of a battery change that resets itself, the answer is for any of these problems.

If you are not sure why your light is on, then have your car looked at by a shop with trained Land Rover technicians who will be able to troubleshoot and repair any airbag issues that you may have. In other words, if your airbag light is on, don’t take it or your family’s life for granted. Have it checked.
